Firefly Home by Jane Clarke –ADVISABLE

Firefly Home by Jane Clarke and Illustrated by Britta Teckentrup.  PICTURE BOOK. Nosy Crow (Candlewick), 2019. $15. 9781536205879

BUYING ADVISORY:  EL (K-3)  -ADVISABLE

AUDIENCE APPEAL: AVERAGE

A firefly is lost and the reader is asked to help out with finding her way home. There are many false leads from the moon to a train. The reader shows the firefly how to fly really fast by flapping their hands and later is asked to make a wish. The illustrations are large and simple.

A lovely story which asks not only for the readers help but helps them to think about what lights up at night. Children who have never seen a firefly would have trouble relating but it could be made part of a lesson about fireflies with a video clip. The illustrations are all at night but show a wide variety of hues and are very beautiful.
