Everyone knows that the past held some pretty massive dinosaurs, but other creatures were often extra large too. Becker and Bindon introduce readers to seven of those megabugs in this fascinating and well-designed nonfiction picture book. Whether a huge dragonfly to an 8 foot long millipede, readers will be glad these bugs no longer exist. There's a little section at the back that details a few bugs that are still considered giants today, as well as a useful glossary.
My science-minded kindergartner absolutely loved this book, and I was always excited to read it to him! This is a really great example of what nonfiction books should be like for younger readers--great illustrations, fantastic size comparisons to an average kid, and clear and concise information. There is nothing much to critique about this book. I loved it!
