Sleep: How Nature Gets it Rest by Kate Prendergast –NOT RECOMMENDED

Sleep: How Nature Gets it Rest by Kate Prendergast . PICTURE BOOK. Candlewick, 2019. $17.  9781536207989

BUYING ADVISORY: PRE-K -NO

AUDIENCE APPEAL: AVERAGE

This book features an animal per page and how they sleep. Its very simple, for example, the Rhino “sleeps alone” and Ants “sleep only for a moment. The illustrations are large and there is additional information about each animal at the end of the book.

The artwork in this book is very dated looking and has a darkness to it (I get it, the book is about sleep) that just makes the art look dreary as well. The information is simple but leaves many questions that the teacher may or may not be able to answer, when a second simple sentence may have clarified. I prefer Time to Sleep by Steve Jenkins.
