Lionel is always taking things from other people and leaving them sad and lonely. At a birthday party, Lionel eats the whole cake and finally notices how he has upset all of his friends. He makes it up to them by sharing all of the things he had previously taken.
The pun of a “lion’s share” will mostly be lost on young readers, but the message about sharing isn’t easily lost. Lionel’s attitude change is easy to recognize. Lionel and his friends are cute illustrated animals - the hedgehog is especially darling.
