Kiss Goodnight by Amy Hest – OPTIONAL

Kiss Goodnight by Amy Hest  and Illustrated by Anite Jeram.  BOARD BOOK. Candlewick, 2001 (Reprint 2019). $10.  97815362026746

BUYING ADVISORY: PRE-K -OPTIONAL

AUDIENCE APPEAL: LOW

Mrs. Bear is tucking her son Sam into bed. But he isn’t quite ready and is waiting for something else. So Mrs. Bear keeps trying to guess, offering warm milk, stories, and adjusting the blankets. Finally she figures out that Sam wants kisses.

Obviously this book is popular or the publishers wouldn’t be running this re-print. It would be better for a bedtime book than for a pre-k library. Young listeners might like the repetitive wording and the same cozy scene, but I found it a bit boring and I’m the one who would be reading it. Pre-K students could not picture walk this book and figure out what is going on.
