BUYING ADVISORY: EL (K-3), EL, MS - ESSENTIAL
AUDIENCE APPEAL: AVERAGE
Animal Habitats is an engaging, non-fiction look at biomes. It has three levels of the food chain including producers, primary consumers, and secondary and tertiary consumers. It also has a cool "Where's-Waldo-style" picture page where you can pick out the animals and plants included in the biome studies. Lots of interesting facts make it easy to read and navigate it's amazing text and colors. The art enhances an already unique book.
I love to read non fiction books about animals and the colors and cut outs make this book singular. Many illustrations look like Scherenschnitte (die cuts). I loved the die cut turtle in the beginning. With text bubbles and short paragraphs of explanations, this book is simple enough to engage a young child and has sophisticated ideas and graphics to keep an older student learning. Students who love animal books, I Spy or Look and Find books will love this book.
