Max Meow: Taco Time Machine (Max Meow #4) by John Gallagher, 227 pages. GRAPHIC NOVEL. Random House, 2022. $13
BUYING ADVISORY: EL - ADVISABLE
AUDIENCE APPEAL: HIGH
Max Meow and his best friend Mindy (aka Science Kitty) are off an another adventure after they discover Mindy's famous scientist father is missing. The key seems to be a time machine in the form of a giant taco, and with the help of an older once-retired hero, Steel Skunk, the heroes try to fix time and bring back Mindy's dad.
Like the other Max Meow books, this is a story aimed very much at elementary readers. The jokes are corny, the plot a little slow moving, but kids will get a kick out of the adventure. My own kids loved it and we're now reading the entire series. I really like the illustration style and its bright colors, and there's a bonus "how to draw" page at the back so readers can try their hand and drawing one of the characters.
