BUYING ADVISORY: EL (K-3) - ADVISABLE
AUDIENCE APPEAL: AVERAGE
The Noodlehead brothers want to just take it easy, - anything they do should be easy-peasy so when mom sends them to the store to buy ingredients for pie, they take a list and get a ride back on Farmer Spud's Mare singing all the way. While mom is making the pie, she tells them stories about when they made something that should have been easy hard. While they wait for the pie to cool, their friend meatball tells them a story, but he's really playing a trick on them so he can eat their pies.
The Noodleheads do silly things and make funny mistakes, but so does everyone. This series helps teach children they can laugh at themselves. I loved the author's note and loved that he told us about the sources for his stories. I loved that the folk songs they sing aren't parodies. I liked that the idioms "falling off a log", and "easy as pie" (among others) are incorporated into the story, as well as their definitions. I believe there are 6 books in this series now, and all should part of an elementary school library. So silly and fun.
