AUDIENCE APPEAL: AVERAGE
For many years the Von Trapeze circus family has been performing in their big, colorful tent. They travel the world in painted wagons and amaze audiences wherever they go. Grandma breathes fire. Grandpa swallows swords, Uncle and clan perform a human pyramid, Papa and Mama walk the tightrope blindfolded, daughter Ana rides a unicycle, and Alea is fired out of a cannon. After a performance, they all bow and enjoy the smiles, waving arms, and flowers from the audience. But the youngest member of the family, Adam, doesn’t care for or participate in the circus. He has tried all the tricks and can’t do them. The family gets together and realizes that they have never listened to Adam and asked him what he wants to do. Then they hear him playing a tuba beautifully in one of the circus vans. Could his ability be part of their circus?
Adam and His Tuba conveys a touching message of how everyone can contribute to something in their own way if given a chance. The illustrations are masterful and original offering the superb feeling of an old time circus.
