AUDIENCE APPEAL: AVERAGE
Cat is old. His family brings a new kitten to the house. Cat arches his back and looks scary, while cute little Kitty looks friendly. Cat is grumpy sitting in a box and Kitty is happy exploring. Kitty is energetic playing with a ball of yarn while Cat is exhausted. Cat is asleep while Kitty is awake. Cat goes up when Kitty pounces down on his tail. Cat pulls Kitty and then pushes him outside in the rain through the cat door. Will Cat and Kitty ever be friends?
Hokkanen has crafted a clever book of opposite words that create a wonderfully interesting story. She uses just one word to describe what each cat is doing. It does have simple text but the words are sometimes complex. I was delighted with what was going on in the illustrations on each page. The illustrations tell most of the story.
