AUDIENCE APPEAL - HIGH

The Princess in Black and her friends are sailing on a boat named Lively Turnip. As princess heroes, they are always on the lookout for monsters, but what the Princess in Black would really like is to see a mermaid. People say mermaids don’t exist, but the Princess in Black is hopeful. When something crashes into the side of the boat, everyone believes it’s a monster and they chase after it. Much to her delight, the Princess in Black discovers it’s a mermaid, a princess mermaid to be exact, and she needs their help.

Hale writes a very likable series with such fun illustrations. The princess and her friends work together to defeat the monsters they encounter. In this case, the monster is a big, blue kraken they fight underwater and discover fighting underwater is hard. So amusing. If the series is popular in your library, you’ll want to get this one as well.
