It's Danbi's first day of school in America, and she promises her mother she will be good. But try as she might, her first day isn't going smoothly, she doesn't understand anyone, when she writes her name (in Korean) no one knows what it means, and she's unfamiliar with the games and activities. And then . . . lunch. Everything she brought is delicious for her, but unusual to her classmates, so why not start a parade? Whatever it takes, Danbi will figure out how to make friends.
Although this is about a student joining a class already established, it would make a great first day of school read. "Danbi Leads the School Parade" is about welcoming new students, it's about finding common interests and working around language barriers. The illustrations are darling, each student with their own personality, so much going on in a busy busy classroom.
