When Clyde's friends tell him all about the fun they had over break, Clyde, who spent his break snacking and watching TV, tells a lie. He says he went to Space Camp and took a trip to outer space and has a picture to prove it. When his friends want to see the picture, Clyde realizes he's in trouble and spends the next evening trying to create one.
I love this "Clyde the Hippo" series. He isn't naughty, just makes poor choices - ones that lots of kids make. Marantz's illustrations are so cute, and story ends perfectly - it naturally leads right into a discussion about Clyde and what happens when you tell a lie. Mostly, you feel bad and your friends are disappointed.
