BUYING ADVISORY: EL (K-3) - ESSENTIAL
AUDIENCE APPEAL: AVERAGE
Amira is so excited for Eid! Her mother gave her mehendi designs on her hands, she's put together goody bags for the children at the masjid, and her shalwar kameez is ironed and ready to go. But then she notices the flyer on the fridge - tomorrow is also school picture day! Amira isn't going to school, because of the Eid celebration with her family. But if she isn't in the class picture, how will her friends remember her?
What a great story! I loved that Amira had hard choices and found a way to share not only her culture with her class, but to be in the picture as well. The illustrations are marvelous. Amira's facial expressions are my favorite. Don't worry if you aren't familiar with Eid, there's an author's note, a glossary and information about Eid.
