When Major George Armistead was read to defend Fort McHenry from the British, he commissioned a flag to be made. Mary Pickersgill was ready and with her flag shop employees, worked very hard over the course of several weeks to get the flag ready. The flag that stayed secure through the entire battle. 

I learned a few things in this book and loved the focus on the female owned and operated business that Mary Pickersgill ran. This book has a fantastic balance of information - enough to get the background information as well as the story and also keep it fast paced and enjoyable.
