Sophie is a snail who is interested in the world around her and very excited to learn more when she starts school. Arriving at school, however, brings out Sophie's feelings of shyness. Every time she's faced with a new person or a new situation, she finds herself popping back into her shell to hide. Being shy makes Sophie feel silly, but when another shy snail, Stanley, befriends her, she realizes its okay to be shy sometimes. Sophie also comes to see how much confidence she can gain when she has a friend at her side.
This is a book put out for kids by the American Psychological Association, and the message at the heart of the book is pretty clear from the get-go. I enjoyed the simple story and the illustrations are so bright and cheerful they will definitely appeal to readers. This would be a good pick to help anxious kids before the start of school or before any big event.
