Maggie May and Lizzie Loo by Maggie Cordish and Lizzie Schaul -- ADVISABLE

Maggie May and Lizzie Loo by Maggie Cordish and Lizzie Schaul. PICTURE BOOK. Mascot Books, 2019. $15. 9781684015740

BUYING ADVISORY: Pre-K - ADVISABLE

AUDIENCE APPEAL: HIGH

Maggie May wants to spend her fourth birthday at the park without her two-year-old copycat of a sister, but it's not to be, so an annoyed Maggie May has to watch Lizzie Loo steal the show with her gymnastic abilities. Can the two girls find common ground, or are they destined to always be at odds?

This rhyming picture book addresses a common issue among siblings and has a lovely resolution that could help real-life siblings get along as well. The quirky illustrations grew on me as the story progressed, and the book itself is attractive, with a lot of care clearly taken for the layout. The girls definitely seemed older than two and four, and older ages would have widened the appeal for elementary-school children, but this is, all in all a cute story.
