BUYING ADVISORY: EL (K-3) – ADVISABLE
AUDIENCE APPEAL: AVERAGE
The world is full of stories, for all kinds of readers. The invisible story is unlike any of the other stories. It’s terrified of being read. One day, a little girl comes to the library, finds the invisible story on the shelf and finds a beautiful surprise within the pages.
The white paper-cut illustrations are striking with bright bursts of color. It’s not super clear at the beginning that the invisible story is one written in Braille for blind readers, but you get there in the end. It’s a little ironic that a story about sight loss and Braille is told in picture book format, meant for people who can see. Still, it will help students understand a topic they may be very unfamiliar with.
