Noura’s family is fasting in observance of Islamic month of Ramadan. On the last night of Ramandan, they pack a nighttime picnic and head to the hills in hopes of seeing the sliver of the new waxing crescent moon. If they see the moon, they can celebrate Eid.
I didn’t know a lot about Ramadan and Eid, so I loved this simple story from Noura’s point of view. There were a lot of references to Islamic food, culture, and religious observances, which was awesome. It’s a great introduction to Islamic culture for littles, or a world history classroom. The illustrations were also colorful and gorgeous.
