BUYING ADVISORY: Pre-K, EL (K-3) - OPTIONAL
AUDIENCE APPEAL: AVERAGE
This is the story of an Artist (represented as a dinosaur) who sees the wonder, joy and beauty of everything in the world and makes it into her art. She goes on a journey, shares her art, makes some mistakes and gets discouraged, and then is encouraged by people who love her art to try again.
I absolutely loved the bold and colorful illustrations in this book, done with mixed media style. And I liked what the story aimed to do which was to answer the question "what is an artist?" But the story itself was fairly abstract in answering the question, and the Artist's journey seemed to take the story in a totally different direction, landing on more of a "mistakes are how you learn" theme. This book was fun to look at and I think kids will definitely enjoy the art, but I found the story itself to be a bit lacking.
