BUYING ADVISORY: EL (K-3) - NO
AUDIENCE APPEAL: AVERAGE
Mousetta is very shy. She walks backward so she doesn't have to meet people, and often hides under her mother's skirt or in her father's vest. So, when Dr. Gladpaw offers a special workshop at the Field Mouse Field House, she decides to try to take his advice, but, too shy to walk there herself, she wears a bucket over her head. When she arrives, she discovers, she's not the only shy field mouse in the field.
There were several things that made me raise an eyebrow . . . popular mice children and regular mice children - and the popular ones were popular because of how they looked?!? I hated that Mousetta was described as "mousey" - no wonder she wants to hide all the time. Where are her siblings teaching her how to be brave, why do her parents let her walk backward and hide under their skirts? The ending was odd as well. Not recommended.
