Jose is a garbageman in Bogota. Each night, as he collects garbage from the upper class houses, he looks through to find books. He brings the books home and reads them. But on Saturday, he opens his home to the children of his barrio.

Jose Gutierrez is an inspiration - turning something he loves (reading) into something that helps his whole community. Sprinkled with Spanish words and phrases, the context was clear so no glossary was needed. Includes author's note, a list of the books that were mentioned in the story and some online sources.
