Narwhals and other whales are studied in the Arctic which takes a lot of
planning for the scientists because of the harsh weather. Narwhals are shy creatures so there isn’t
much known about them, but this book covers their migration, mating habits,
communication and the myths surrounding them.
Narwhals are closely related to Beluga whales and all whales have
similar characteristics so those are covered as well.
I like this Fact Tracker, even if you don’t read
the companion Magic Tree House novel, because the facts are simplified and
interesting. Narwhals are endearing
creatures and the explanation about their tusks was fascinating because of how
it grows, how they use it to communicate and how the tusks were used and sold
historically. There are many photos as
well as drawings throughout which make it more interesting and a fast
read.
