What About Worms!? by Ryan T. Higgins. EARLY READER Hyperion, 2020. $10. 9781368045735
BUYING ADVISORY: EL (K-3) – ESSENTIAL
AUDIENCE APPEAL: HIGH
Tiger is petrified of worms. He loves flowers, but can’t enjoy them because what if they have worms in the dirt? He loves apples, but when he bites into the apple he fears there might be worms. And Tiger also loves books, but again, he is scared of worms (book worms). Tiger runs away from his pile of flowers, an apple and a book. A bunch of worms find the pile and they decide they like the tiger because he gave them everything they love, so they think the tiger needs a hug.
Adorable! I love all of Ryan Higgins books, and this is no exception. The tiger’s increased worrying is funny, but the worms are so endearing. The moral of the story is that when we take the time to learn about others and see the good that they do, then we can appreciate our differences. Fantastic!
