BUYING ADVISORY: PREK – OPTIONAL
AUDIENCE APPEAL: AVERAGE
Wolf is hungry so he eats his way through all
the little forest animals he finds, such as a frog, squirrel and bird. But in his haste to squelch his hunger, he
eats a hedgehog whose spikes hurt the wolf’s tummy. He spits all the animals out and decides to try
vegetables and fruit instead.
The wolf
and all the forest animals are simple but cute and each page spread has a flap
that shows the animal going into the wolf’s mouth. The text has a steady and predictable
repetition that younger readers can enjoy including the words “Chomp,
chomp”. Overall, the story is a bit sad,
not scary or anything, but the wolf is eating cute little wide-eyed animals, even though they survive in the end.
