BUYING ADVISORY: EL (K-3) - OPTIONAL
AUDIENCE APPEAL: LOW
If you enjoy listening to stories and reading books and hiding under tables to listen to the grownups talk and doing so many other fun and quiet things, you may end up being just like Patricia MacLachlan: a writer.
Someone Like Me, with its old-timey references and muted pastel illustrations and very specific examples, feels as if it is written more for adults than for children. Indeed, I found it lovely, but I feel like it would find an extremely small audience among children, who are the bulk of picture book readers. Because of this, I think it might work well as a gift to a female writer who is an adult and loves picture books, but probably won't do as well in an elementary school classroom or library.
