The Princess in Black and the Giant Problem by Shannon Hale - HIGH

The Princess in Black and the Giant Problem (Princess in Black, #8) by Shannon Hale, illustrated by Dean Hale, 90 pages. CHAPTER BOOK. Candlewick Press, 2020.  $15  9781536202229

BUYING ADVISORY: EL (K-3) – OPTIONAL

AUDIENCE APPEAL: HIGH

The Princess in Black is excited to play in the snow with her two friends.  Just as the fun is getting underway, a giant comes along and starts squashing everything it sees.  Princess and Black and her friends can’t stop the giant on their own, so they call in back-up from their other friends.  Eventually the baby giant’s mother finds the giant and takes it home.

I think the Princess in Black series is fun for new readers and if you have success with the other books in the series in your library, then this will get attention as well.  You would have to read this book in the right order in the series to know the backstory and at one point I felt like there were too many characters. Not my favorite book in the series, because the action gets interrupted too many times as new characters are introduced.
