BUYING ADVISORY: EL - OPTIONAL
AUDIENCE APPEAL: AVERAGE
Excited for a foreign exchange student to stay at their home, preparations are made. The spare bedroom is fixed up and excursions are planned, but the foreign exchange student doesn’t do anything as expected. It must be a cultural thing.
The story of Eric doesn’t really make much sense. I had to sit and ponder about what the point is. While I have decided that I like the story Tan presents to readers, I wonder what the intended-audience-age readers will get out of this book besides a pretty visual surprise at the end.
