The Grinny Granny Donkey by Craig Smith - OPTIONAL

The Grinny Granny Donkey by Craig Smith, illustrated by Katz Cowley. PICTURE BOOK Scholastic, 2020. $8. 9781338692273

BUYING ADVISORY: EL (K-3)-OPTIONAL

AUDIENCE APPEAL: AVERAGE

Granny Donkey has trouble keeping her false teeth in her mouth.  The donkey likes to eat biscuits, drink tea, play her banjo and dress up.  Grinny Granny misses her family, so when they show-up she is the Grinny Granny Donkey.

Wonky Donky was a success because of it’s humor and it made for a fun read aloud. This book seems to be aimed more towards grandmas than children, which lacks the appeal of lap reading a fun book with a grandchild. The illustrations are sub-par and the story seems slow and predictable.
