BUYING ADVISORY: Pre-K, EL(K-3) - OPTIONAL
AUDIENCE APPEAL: AVERAGE
Circle invites her friends, Triangle and Square, to play a game of hide-and-seek; the one rule is that you cannot hide behind Circle's waterfall. Triangle immediately breaks the rule and Circle has to brave the darkness behind the water. In the darkness, Circle is surprised and initially scared to discover a totally different set of eyes that don't belong to Triangle! Once back in the light, the 3 shapes ponder what sort of shape the eyes might have belonged to.
I had high expectations of loving this book since its Jon Klassen, but maybe I'm just missing some obvious point to this story. I didn't really get it, nor love it. I found Triangle's immediate breaking of the rule rather funny and so very true to life with kids; I did not understand the point of the ending. Fans of Klassen and Barnett's shape books will probably still want to see how the trilogy "ends" but I don't think its all that fantastic.
