Each spread in this book has one full page illustration, one poem, and one section of science notes. The spreads each cover one bird and explain how it is the “best” at something or the “biggest” of something, for example. The albatross, as one example, has the widest wingspan and the Arctic tern has the longest round-trip migration.
One of my favorite details of this books it that the front ends and the back ends have the same illustrations of birds, but on one it has the name of the birds and on one it has the superlative associated with that bird. The poetry often rhymes and is fun to read aloud. The science notes are thorough and I like that they are sort of optional reading - you can get the information from the poem, but they provide a deeper dive.
