This book is like a conglomeration
of: a graphic novel, ayou choose adventure, and dungeons and dragons type game.
Readers choose a character, and set off on an adventure to find bands of
bravery. The reader must keep track of the attributes of their character, the
gold they collect, the bands they find, and more. The adventure I took involved
outsmarting a dragon, riding and selling a donkey, and eventually falling into
a pit. The artwork simple and will be fun if the final book is published in
color.
I can see quite a few students
finding this book to be great fun, especially if they love gaming but have
limited screen time –this is the next best thing. It does take paper and pen to
make the book really work, but it would be played without it. I think students
will find this to a new and quirky think to try out and it would be worth
getting this to find out. It would appeal to gaming fans, graphic novel fans,
and fans of the You Choose Books which were HUGE at my school library.
