Pocket Bios: Martin Luther King, Jr. by Clementine V. Baron - ADVISABLE

Pocket Bios: Martin Luther King, Jr. by Clementine V. Baron. PICTURE BOOK/NON-FICTION. Roaring Brook Press, 2017. $15. 9781250302557

BUYING ADVISORY: EL (K-3), EL - ADVISABLE

AUDIENCE APPEAL: AVERAGE

This book focuses heavily on who Martin was before his rise to the forefront of civil rights. The book goes through his education and his relationships and his inspirations. It does touch on some of the violence he endured, but it stays appropriate for young readers.

Capturing Martin Luther King’s life is not easy because of the complexities of the civil rights movements and the nature of the country at that time. This book does not reach into any of the layers, but rather provides the whisper of an outline for his life. This book is best as a jumping off point for students to go and learn more.
