When an unnamed boy’s dad wants to be more involved with his
soccer team, the boy thinks he could be in charge of halftime snacks. But the
dad has other ideas. He pulls on a uniform and joins the boys on the field.
That turns out even worse than it sounds. His son has to teach him about being
a good sport and how to have fun in a way that is supportive of the whole team.
The illustrations have bold lines and flat colors, like a comic book, and the situations are silly,
but it all works for teaching young readers about sportsmanship. This
role-reversal story is humorous while teaching important lessons featuring a sport so many kids play daily at recess. I think most elementary school libraries will find that this title flies off their shelves.
