There is a school where young students go to learn the ways
of the ninja. When they have practiced hard, they will eventually learn what
secret skill they possess. Ruby is struggling with the basic skills though and
she feels like she won’t ever find her own special secret skill. She keeps
trying though and begins to get a bit better with the basics. At night however,
she was homesick and sad. As she spoke with the other homesick ninja students,
she began to realize that she really did have special skills after all.
I like that the main character of this book is a girl.
Ninjas are often associated with boys, so it was refreshing to see something
different. This book has a great focus on perseverance and finding the things
that make you unique and special. There is also a pattern and directions for a
really cute dragon stuffed animal in the back of the book.
