Skelly’s Halloween by David Martin, illustrated by Lori Richmond. PICTURE BOOK. Henry Holt and Co (Macmillan), 2018. $17. 9781250127068
BUYING ADVISORY: Pre-K, EL (K-3) - OPTIONAL
AUDIENCE APPEAL: AVERAGE
Skelly is a skeleton and he’s dressed as ghost for Halloween, but because of the wind he’s fallen to pieces. Several animals try to put him back together again (kind of like Humpty Dumpty), but not one does it quite right. Until a crowd of trick-or-treaters comes by and helps Skelly.
Little kids will enjoy the different ways Skelly is put back together again, until he’s finally back to his skeleton self. The story and illustrations are spooky without being scary.
