BUYING ADVISORY: Pre-K, EL (K-3) – OPTIONAL
AUDIENCE APPEAL: AVERAGE
Told in second person, a young fairy is about to have her
first day of school. She is told about all the things to expect. They are
similar to what a human child might expect in a pre-K or Kindergarten class,
but with a fairy twist. They ride the schoolbird, cuddle a teddybug, wave their
wands, and shake their wings. They have a tooth center and a spells center, and
a class firefly pet.
The illustrations are dainty and whimsical. The fairies are
both boys and girls of different skin tones. This will be well received by anyone
who loves to imagine a world of tiny fairies, or by someone about to start
school, though the text is a bit long for a young child, and is more a shopping
list than an exciting adventure. However, you could use it to introduce comparing
and contrasting with young students.
