Leap is a sled dog puppy who is finally big enough to join the sled dog team. Each of the sled dogs is special. Grinch is strong, Refried is musical, Boo is fast, and the others have great talents too. Leap worries that she is not special. The next day, Leap is harnessed with the other dogs on her first run. On the way back, the river is no longer frozen and the sled team can't cross. Then Leap discovers her talent to help the team make it home.
Braverman teaches the reader about teamwork, self acceptance, and never giving up. When's illustrations are adorable and warm, yet help us feel Leap's cold snowy environment.
