When Hana learns that both sets of her grandparents are coming for a visit, she wants to make the perfect meal for them. She is at loss for what to make until she remembers the time she spent cooking with both sets of grandparents. She comes up with a dish that will appeal to her grandparents from South Carolina and her grandparents from South Korea.
A sweet story about a girl who finds a way to celebrate her multicultural background. Love is the ingredient that brings them all together. The recipe for Kimchi Gumbo is included at the end. Anthony’s illustrations are great. They have lots of movement and expression.
Hana is and her family are Black and South Korean.
