My City Speaks by Darren Lebeuf and Ashley Barron - ADVISABLE

My City Speaks
by Darren Lebeuf and Ashley Barron.
PICTURE BOOK. Kids Can Press, 2021. $18. 9781525304149

BUYING ADVISORY: EL (K-3) - ADVISABLE

AUDIENCE APPEAL: AVERAGE

A young girl and her dad travel across the city to a violin recital. She is sight impaired and describes all the things her other senses tell her - she crosses a street, mails a letter, feeds the birds, rides a subway, passes by trash, tastes gelato, feels the rain etc.

I loved the onomatopoeia and word choices - so much fun to read outloud. So well written - the lyrical text perfectly complements the cut paper illustrations which are spectacular! I spent extra time looking at the detailed illustrations - amazing.
