A Boy Named Isamu by James Yang - ADVISABLE

A Boy Named Isamu: A Story of Isamu Noguchi by James Yang
. PICTURE BOOK. Viking (Penguin), 2021. $18. 9780593203446

BUYING ADVISORY: Pre-K, EL (K-3) - ADVISABLE

AUDIENCE APPEAL: HIGH

Isamu does not like noisy and crowded places. He is trying to find a place that "feels more like him." He wonders and thinks about a lot of things in nature. Isamu likes to explore nature and think and wonder about all the things he sees. Nature inspires him and makes him think about the things he sees.

Noguchi’s story made me think about some of my children, and even about my own childhood. I loved spending time alone in nature. It might be that a lot of children would see themselves in this book. Hopefully parents and teachers will read it their children and students and make the book available for quiet pondering, enjoying the wonderful illustrations and realize that others also like the peace and quiet of places that a person can be alone.
