AUDIENCE APPEAL: HIGH
Rory is new at school and decides to start a club to find other kids who likes reptiles as much as he does. He advertises for his Reptile Club and the only members to show up are actual reptiles: Raoul the crocodile, Miriam the anaconda, and a gecko named Pierre. When the other kids see what sort of cool creatures come to Reptile club, they want to join too! Even after the reptile members have to leave (its too cold here in winter!), the other kids stick around because they've become Rory's friends, too.
This is a fantastic picture book about friendship and owning your interests proudly. I really enjoyed the story, the characters--both mammal and reptilian--and the fun illustrations. As a bonus, you learn a lot of cool facts about reptiles, too! I think this is a book that will find a very receptive audience as it carries appeal on a lot of levels.
