BUYING ADVISORY: Pre-K, EL(K-3) - ADVISABLE

AUDIENCE APPEAL: AVERAGE

Two adventurous kids head out to search for bugs on a summer afternoon. They find 10 bugs on each page, and add them up in various ways--7+3, 8+2, 5+5, etc. By the end of the day, they've counted 100 bugs.

This is a really fun mathematics picture book. It drives home the idea of counting or adding up to 10 in different ways and does it in rhyme, with bugs, and fantastic pictures. My bug-lovin' kid ate this one up, even if he's a bit too young to fully grasp the math concepts yet. I don't often find math-based picture books this good, so I definitely recommend it. The last pages of the book include more information about the bug species the kids find, and that's a happy bonus.
