Food Fight! A Mouthwatering History of Who Ate What and Why Through the Ages by Tanya Steel, 153 pages. NON-FICTION. National Geographic, 2018. $20.
BUYING RECOMMENDATION: EL - ADVISABLE
AUDIENCE APPEAL: HIGH
Look at your food in new ways as you read about the history that lead up to much of what you find on your table even today.
Steel creates a fairly simple framework for looking at different time periods from history, including a couple of recipes in each chapter. The lens is very Euro-centric, however, so don’t expect to see South America, China, or Africa here. Another 30 pages and this could have been comprehensive in scope.
