Piggy: Let's Be Friends! by Trevor Lai. PICTURE BOOK. Bloomsbury, 2018. $17. 9781681190686.
BUYING ADVISORY: Pre-K, EL (K-3) - ADVISABLE
AUDIENCE APPEAL: HIGH
Piggy is friends with nearly everyone in the forest except Miles; Miles is a mole who lives underground so Piggy and Miles have never met. When their paths finally cross, Piggy is super friendly but Miles is still nervous and anxious about coming above ground. Miles makes an attempt to attend a party Piggy is throwing, but it does not go well. Not giving up, Piggy heads below ground to ensure he and Miles can still be friends.
This is a fun little book about friendship. Miles and Piggy are both very endearing characters and the illustrations only enhance their appeal. This was a very fun book to read aloud and my preschooler asked for it over and over. I appreciated the message that friendship is a two-way street with both parties needing to make an effort.
