Howl Like a Wolf! Learn to Think, Move, and Act Like 15 Amazing Animals by Kathleen Yale, illustrated by Kaley McKean. PICTURE BOOK/NON-FICTION. Storey Publishing, 2018. $19. 9781612129051
BUYING ADVISORY: Pre-K, EL (K-3) – ESSENTIAL.
AUDIENCE APPEAL: HIGH
There are fifteen sections in this brightly illustrated book with titles like, Howl Like a Wolf and Dance Like a Honeybee. In each section there is a first person description of that animal and several additional pages of facts and then activities that directly relate to the behaviors of that animal. These activities include things like foraging at a farmers market (like a deer) and carrying a ball on the top of your feet (like a penguin).
This book is a great addition to a classroom teacher’s toolbox. It is informational, engaging, and includes lots of activities that could be done in a classroom setting. Some activities are more silly than others and some would be difficult in a school setting, but enough could be used or adapted that this would work well in grades K-3.
