Framed around the idea of fighting, this book takes us through Elizabeth’s life through the lens of her struggles. Elizabeth’s family was happily middle class until her dad lost his job and the family struggled financially. She watched her mother go to work after years of being home and Elizabeth herself took a lot of different jobs. Elizabeth lost her teaching job after she gave birth and after staying home for a time, she went to law school while her kids were young. She spent much of her legal career learning about and representing the middle class financial experience, which in turn influenced her ideas when she ran for and won a senate seat.
Even though women are underrepresented in government, I am so encouraged that their representation in literature is taking off. This book is well written and beautifully illustrated. The book also includes a more detailed biography in the back to talk about some of the things brushed over, given the limited space of a picture book. Elizabeth Warren is a worthy role model for, but not limited to, young female readers.
