AUDIENCE APPEAL: AVERAGE
Two young girls wake up and hear the many sounds that accompany living next to Lake Superior. After the sun rises, they dress warm, grab their skates and walk through the woods noticing many sights and sounds dear to them while Lake Superior sleeps through winter. How will they feel when they skate out on the ice?
I like how Pendziwol paints a serene and lyrical picture of the sights, sounds, and emotions of Lake Superior in winter. Stewart's illustrations are exquisitely breathtaking and capture the textual painting. Older children will appreciate this poetic work.
