Another lovely story about Danbi, a young Korean American girl who shares her culture with her friends and classmates. In Danbi's Favorite Day, Danbi shares the excitement of Children's Day, a day where families gather to celebrate and honor children as the leaders of tomorrow. Danbi promises a day of excitement, but a storm disrupts her plans and forces her to get creative in order to save the day.
Anna Kim's illustrations are gorgeous and filled with wonderful details and expression. The story itself is fun, and very Danbi - a little precocious, with lots of energy and creativity. There were a few disconnects in the story that made me feel like I'd skipped a page, but overall the story was a fun celebratory day with Danbi, her parents and friends. I would have loved some backmatter explaining a bit more about the tradition of Children's Day. Danbi and her family are from Korea, while her friends are illustrated as a beautifully diverse cast of characters.
