When a big rig truck carrying an oversized load gets stuck on a switchback road, traffic is completely stopped and the island residents have no way to get to their destinations. The grown-ups may be grumpy about the situation, but the kids are creative and find a solution.
This is a delightful story of problem-solving and community cooperation. Big Truck Little Island is based on a true story, with some fictional details and characters added. I thought this was a wonderful story, with absolutely gorgeous and detailed illustrations. The story is told in carefully crafted, easy-flowing rhyme. An author's note at the end of the book made the story even more enjoyable - I loved finding out that this was based on a true story! This will be a great read-aloud and I know my elementary students will thoroughly enjoy it. This book features a beautifully diverse cast of characters.
